Yesterday I finished my second victorian day dress.
This one is made of black and grey "gabardine" . I used my standart late victorian skirt pattern for the skirt , the black trim at the seam is box pleated and decorated with black satin ribbon.
The draped skirt is made without a pattern, as I looked around for some ideas I found a pattern from "Truly Victorian", it was TV362 I liked a lot, but I didn't want to buy a pattern for a drapery so I tried without one
For the bodice I didn't really had any pattern as well, I first wanted to take one from Norah Waugh's "The Cut and Construction of Women's Clothes" but I was too lazy to enlarge it, so I used my ball gown bodice pattern which fits quite good and just altered it until I had a day dress bodice
Well, and that's it
Edit on 14.April 2007:
I exchanged the old pictures for better ones that were taken last year by my boyfriend.
Now you can see the hat and the bag I made for that dress.
The hat has long black satin ribbons at the backside, which were called "Follow Me" or "Flirtation Ribbons" which was the victorian young women's way of telling the men that they still were unmarried *gg*
was there as well, wearing a white Robe a L'Anglaise (I think she's got a picture of it in her gallery), my boyfriend took several good pictures of us that day.
The bustle and the bodice both look great. Good job on the draping. What sort of hat are you thinking? Accessories seem to be the hardest thing to get source images on.
Thanks
I'm still looking for the perfect hat-idea by now I don't really know how it should be. I have a few pictures of late victorian hats but I didn't quite find the right one.
Well, yes the accessoires are a difficult matter. I'm still looking for a good old parasol I can afford, now I have a modern one that I covered with lace myself, but the shape is totally wrong of course ...
