This is a little update on my black elizabethan gown.
I made a second bodice with a deeper, square neckline so that I could show off my blackwork embroidered partlet
The bodice was quite fast and easy to do although I had to do the silver embroidery with my own hands .. the original plan had been to sew that silver lines all over the bodice, but sadly, granny Pfaff didn't like the silver thread. So I decided to do only the two little parts on the front.
The gown has now a more english style and is not that warm because I wanted to wear it on the last Goettertanz in my favourite club. It was really perfect, not too hot and not too cold.
And perhaps I might have performances in summer with my historic dance group ...
At the moment I'm still working on an chemise with blackwork embroidered sleeves which should give that gown the last perfect touch ... I'm going to attach lacing strips for extra sleeves as well but I fear I cannot move any more with laced in sleeves ... the bodice is a little small at the shoulders ...
I changed the picture like I promised
Yesterday we went to the next town where's an old castle, the inner ward dates from the renaissance and is the perfect background.
I went there with the historic dance group because a film team is working on a documentation for that castle and they wanted some period dressed dancers for some scenes.
Iz was fun, but unbelievable hot, I had to stand at the balcony for a short time, with my black velvet in the sun ...
Oh, and I made a new headdress, much smaller that time and it looks better, just like the small headdresses Elizabeth I herself wore on many paintings ... sadly it's not visible on that picture, perhaps I can take a close up next time
It's looking good. I can't wait to see how the blackworked chemise comes out. Is there any chance you have a close up shot of the partlet? I would love to see the details of the pattern closer. Was it hand or machine done?
I made it before I closed the side seams because it was better to photograph that way.
It is hand made ... took almost a year to do it, but I have to say that I didn't work on it for several months until I felt like finishing it
I used black cotton embroidery thread together with silver thread.
